Breathing Meditation Coaching by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

In this universe thing is too big to control. Very contrast to modern thinking of humanity or at least scientists, Buddhism advice is just focus on one’s own mind. Buddha says you can control nothing except your mind. Even worse than that just simply one mind very rare that the human beings are able to tame it. Of course, for most of us we accept that mind is the most difficult object to observe and get under controll ever. Only few of us say yes that we can regulate our mind‘s transaction. After all, can we get our mind stabilized, balance and concentrated?


His Holiness the Dalai Lama answers „Yes“. How to control it? The Dalai Lama responds by getting it controlled and to getting it controlled is through Vipassana or simply meditation. But then how to do meditation? The answer is as following:

The basic idea of Vipassan or Meditation is nothing than just to observe our mind. Many people misunderstood this mediation. They thought meditation is about how to see unseen thing, to see the how big is the universe, to see the angel, to this and that. All are wrong. Mediation is not about to see those things. Meditation is just to convert one’s ownself to the looker or observer.

The looker or observer in this sense means to train one’s own mind to to be like a screener of a computer – simply knows something but make no reaction back to that event. Take it to your mind when doing meditation.

Now let’s do a basic Vipassan meditation. First find a stable and quiet place to sit down. When you sit down, keep your both legs cross and also your hands.
Put your up straight and allow the flow of breathing come in and out as it is naturally.
Your role is not to regulate the flow of breathing in and out at all.
Your role is to just make a notice that when it comes in you know it is coming in and when it goes out, you also know it goes out.
When it comes with longer breathing, you know it.
When it goes out with longer breating, you know it.
Keep doing this for five minutes, then you will realize that it is very hard to do it. Probably you would give up. But wait it is very useful for life. Being able to control your breathing system will help you to be a calm person. You will become a more patient individual. It helps when you deal with contentous issues such as debate or presentation a topic to your boss. You feel a little bit stress or scary. Then meditation will help to get rid off this problem.

In fact, meditation can be applied to both dailylife and spiritual life. The principle idea of meditation is that everything that is happening before us is all natural phenomena. It happens and discards away automatically. We do not need to worry about; we don’t need to feel hurt about and we do not need to feel remorse about it at all. Take it in to real example, when we earn much money what we can do is that just make a notice that we have earned lots of money. Do not feel attatch to it. When we lost money, on the other hand, we also do not feel hurt about it since this happens to every of us and that once gaining money gone, probably losing money is coming. That is the real game in life. Those who do not this game and its rule will be life trap and suffering till death.
